2013 and 2014 look to be auspicious years in terms of martial arts movies. Let’s face it, every modern action movie has some sort of martial arts inspired fight scenes. I think all of this is great for the martial arts film genre and the martial arts industry in general. None of this would be possible if not for the old school Kung Fu movies and its film crew, studios, and stars. Modern day stars like Tony Jaa, Zhang Ziyi, and Michael Jai White owe interest in their movies not only through their hard work, tremendous skills, and dedication; but old school stars like Jackie Chan, Cheng Pei-Pei, and Jim Kelly ( just to name a few). As a lifelong Kung Fu movie fan I LOVE the renewed interest in the martial arts genre. In the process of these new spectacular martial arts and action films let’s not forget the ground-breaking work of the Shaw Studios, the pioneering work of King Hu, and the genius of Lau Kar Leung.
While you are out watching and enjoying the latest martial arts films from today’s hottest stars remember the Kung Fu movie titans that paved the way for all the modern martial arts movies that we rave about.
